Roles & permissions
How Spectra's two-level access model works — organization roles govern the plan and billing, workspace roles govern monitoring.
Spectra controls access at two levels. Understanding the split is the key to giving everyone exactly the access they need — and nothing more.
The two levels
- Organization roles govern the plan and billing — who owns the account and who can pay for it. They sit above every workspace.
- Workspace roles govern monitoring — who can create monitors, manage members, and change settings inside a single workspace. They’re assigned independently per workspace, so the same person can be an Admin in one workspace and a Viewer in another.
A person can hold an organization role, one or more workspace roles, or both.
All roles at a glance
| Level | Role | What it can do |
|---|---|---|
| Organization | Org Owner | Full control of the org, plan, and every workspace. One per org, transferable. |
| Organization | Billing Admin | Manages plan, payment, and invoices. No monitoring or member access. |
| Workspace | Workspace Owner | Full control of one workspace, including delete and transfer. One per workspace. |
| Workspace | Admin | Runs a workspace — monitors, members, integrations, settings. Can’t delete it. |
| Workspace | Member | Creates and edits monitors and handles incidents. No member or settings access. |
| Workspace | Viewer | Read-only access to a workspace’s monitors and status pages. |
Custom roles with fine-grained permissions are available on the Enterprise plan. On all other plans the roles above are fixed.
Where to manage roles
- Organization roles live under Settings → Organization → Members & roles.
- Workspace roles live under Settings → Workspace → Members (and are also set when you invite someone).
