What protocol does ping monitoring use?
Standard ICMP echo requests — the same protocol as the ping command. No agent runs on your host; we send echo requests from our global regions.
Do I need to install anything on the server I'm monitoring?
No. Ping monitoring is fully agentless — you only need a reachable hostname or IP address.
Can I monitor internal / private IP addresses?
Public hosts work out of the box. For private or internal addresses, use a private location agent so checks originate inside your network.
What's the difference between ping monitoring and website monitoring?
Ping confirms the host answers on the network; website monitoring confirms the HTTP service on it serves the right content. Use them together.
Is ping monitoring included in the free plan?
Yes — ping, port, and keyword checks are included on every plan, including Free.
