Create Monitor

Create an SSL & domain monitor — domain, alert lead times, and certificate validation.

An SSL & domain monitor performs a live TLS handshake and WHOIS lookup to track certificate and domain expiry and validate the certificate. Open Monitors → Add monitor and choose SSL & domain.

1. Domain

  • Name — a label for your dashboard and alerts.
  • Domain / host — the site or endpoint whose certificate and domain you want to watch.

2. Alert lead times

Choose how far ahead of expiry to be warned — for example at 60, 30, 14, and 7 days. Early warnings turn a preventable outage into a calendar reminder.

3. Check interval

SSL checks run on their own schedule, separate from uptime checks — typically every 24 hours (or 12/6 hours if you want it tighter). Certificates don’t change minute to minute, so frequent checks aren’t needed.

4. What it validates

Once running, the monitor tracks and validates:

  • Certificate expiry — days remaining before the cert expires.
  • Domain expiry — registrar expiry via WHOIS.
  • Chain of trust, hostname match, and detection of self-signed or revoked certificates.

5. Alerts and save

Attach the alert channels and Save — the first check runs immediately.
