What is Ping Monitoring?

Track reachability, latency, and packet loss to a host with ICMP checks from multiple regions.

A ping monitor sends ICMP echo requests to a host and measures whether it responds, how fast, and whether packets are lost. It’s the simplest signal that a server or device is reachable.

Configuration

Host — an IPv4 address, IPv6 address, or hostname/FQDN. Hostnames are re-resolved via DNS on each check.
Check interval and regions.

What it measures

Availability — is the host reachable?
Latency — round-trip time.
Packet loss — the percentage of lost packets, an early sign of trouble before a full outage.

Confirmation

Outages are confirmed from two or more regions before alerting, so a single congested network path doesn’t page you.

Internal hosts

Public hosts work out of the box. To ping a private or internal IP, use a private location agent. See the ping monitoring page.
