What is a DNS lookup?
A DNS lookup queries the Domain Name System for a domain's records — the A/AAAA records that point a name to an IP address, the MX records that route its email, the TXT records used for SPF/DMARC and verification, and more. It's the first thing to check when a site or its email isn't resolving.
What is an MX record?
An MX (Mail eXchange) record tells other mail servers where to deliver email for a domain. Each MX record has a priority (lower is preferred) and a hostname, e.g. "10 mail.example.com". If MX records are missing or wrong, email delivery breaks.
Does this send my domain to a third party?
The lookup runs in your browser and queries a public DNS-over-HTTPS resolver (Cloudflare, with Google as a fallback). The domain name you enter is sent to that resolver to resolve it — nothing is sent to Spectra's servers, and no data is stored.
Why do I see a CNAME when I asked for an A record?
If the name is an alias, DNS returns the CNAME plus the A/AAAA records it ultimately points to. That's normal — the chain is resolved for you.
